Hildi Pillow
My friend’s son has a blanket that is his comfort and friend. Her name is Hildi, after the person who made it for him. Hildi is very worn for she is four years old and has been everywhere her four year old owner has been. He leaves Hildi at home now, because “I am not a baby, I am a boy”, he says. Last Christmas I was to make him the one thing he asked for, a Hildi Pillow. So on July 31, 2011 I finished his pillow. I hope he likes it. This is how I did it.

I made up my own shell pattern for this project.
Then I check to see if it fit.
Next to make a pillow case.
I might have just crocheted it closed but then it could not be washed as easily.

I cut two 19 x 19 pieces of white cotton from my collection of scrap fabric.
I sewed it together on 3 sides. I then took out the stitches I had just made. I was not doing this in the right order. I sometimes skip a step if I am trying to do to much at once.
I need to set the zipper in first then sew the sides together. It is OK to make mistakes, because they can be fixed.
Once the zipper was set in and pressed, I sewed up the sides with a 1/2 inch seam.
I trimmed my corners. (I have an avoidance to trimming out of fear of cutting the wrong thing. But it must be done.)
Pressed all the seams. This may seem to not be a important thing to most as no one will see it but it is my good habit to have.
Slipped my pillow case on,
zipped it up,
and put the crocheted cover over top of the pillow case.
Now I am ready to sew it.
I sewed the crocheted piece to the case right next to the zipper.
Zipped it closed.
I crocheted a 18 x 36 inch piece that could wrap the 18 x18 inch pillow I got. Then I crocheted it closed on two sides.
